An annually-held painting exhibition to celebrate Women’s Day will open on Thursday at Phuong Mai Gallery, 129B Le Thanh Ton Street, HCMC’s District 1.
The “Happy in March 2011” exhibition will feature about 40 paintings made of oil on canvas by seven female artists who include graduates and professors from HCMC University of Fine Arts.
The artists include Nguyen Thi Tam, Dang Thi Duong, Cao Thi Duoc and young artists like Hua Dieu Nu, Thu Huong, Bach Lan and Minh Nguyet.
“Each artist has their own style but all of them want to express the honor of being women. Most of the art shows women and flowers… as each woman is a flower,” said Quang Cuong, owner of the gallery.
Nguyen Thi Tam is famous for painting flowers and landscapes while Bach Lan paints more somber female nudes. Cao Thi Duoc and Thu Huong’s paintings are about innocence and fairies.
The exhibition runs till March 9. Women’s Day is March 8.
