To Minh, whose old art name is Chi Cuong, was born in 1943 in Duc Nghia, Phan Thiet town, Binh Thuan Province, which is famous for fishing villages and seafood. And they have become the main inspirational topics in his paintings.
He attended Gia Dinh Fine Arts College in Saigon and graduated in 1963. He is an impressionist artist whose works can be easily recognized from others.
Before 1975, he had attended various exhibitions and co-exhibitions. He won the first prize for the painting called “Dried fish” in a National Exhibition held by the former State in Saigon in 1973. He was awarded by the late President Nguyen Van Thieu.
Since 1975, he hasn’t held any solo exhibitions, but he has continued to create numerous artworks. Art enthusiasts recognize him as a distinctive artist, known for his unique trowel painting technique. His vibrant paintings and bold brushwork vividly capture the lively fishing life of Phan Thiet as well as the serene beauty of Vietnam’s central region.
