I. Biography and Career of Artist Duong Sen

Artist Duong Sen’s real name is Duong Van Sen. He was born in 1949 in Quynh Doi, Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province, a land renowned for its long-standing tradition of learning. Therefore, his roots in the sun-drenched and wind-swept central region of Vietnam have contributed to nurturing his rich artistic soul.

In 1983, he graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts. This marked an important turning point in his journey as a professional artist.

In terms of professional affiliations, he is currently a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. At the same time, he is also a member of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association.

After graduating, he established his artistic career and actively pursued his creative practice in southern Vietnam. As a result, he quickly became one of the artists who made significant contributions to the development of the local art scene.

II. Artistic Exhibition Journey

Artist Duong Sen’s career has been closely associated with numerous exhibitions, both large and small. He has regularly participated in prominent events in Vietnam as well as international art exhibitions.

Solo Exhibitions

  • 1997 – 1998: He held his first solo exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • 2001: He continued to present his solo works in Germany.
  • 2004: He held a large-scale solo exhibition at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts.

Notable Group Exhibitions

  • 1979 – 2010: He regularly participated in group exhibitions organized by the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.
  • 1993 – 2003: He participated in 15 major and smaller group exhibitions in the two major art centers of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
  • International Presence: He participated in a group exhibition in the United States in 2000. He subsequently exhibited in Germany in 2001.
  • “Southern Colors” Exhibition Series: From 2004 to 2010, he played a key role in this exhibition series held at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts and in Hanoi. Notably, in 2010, he continued to participate in the “Southern Colors VII” exhibition at Phuong Mai Gallery.

  • In 1998, he received Third Prize at the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition – Region 6.
  • In 1999, he received Second Prize at the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition – Region 6.
  • In 2000, he received the B Prize at the Military Exhibition, themed around the Medal of the Armed Forces for the Cause of Vietnamese Fine Arts.
  • 1996 – 2000: He received multiple awards from the Vietnam Fine Arts Association – Region 6.
  • 1997 – 2000: He consecutively received certificates of merit from the Philip Morris Group in Vietnam.
